Our approach
How we use AI responsibly
Steady uses AI in one place only, for one purpose. This page explains exactly what it does, what it never does, and the choices you have.
What the AI generates — and what it doesn't
When you describe a goal, an AI service writes your starting content: twelve affirmations (each with a gentler alternative), thirty daily practice suggestions, ten short visualisations and five reflection prompts, all shaped around your words.
The AI does not assess you. It doesn't judge your progress, score your confidence, analyse your writing or decide whether you're improving. It writes starting material; everything after that is yours.
When requests happen
Steady contacts the AI service only when you explicitly create a programme or change your goal. There are no background requests, no re-generation as you practise, and nothing is sent when you write, edit or save. Once created, your programme is reused from your browser for the whole journey — day after day — without further AI requests.
What is processed, and where your data lives
The only text that leaves your device is your goal description, sent to the AI provider so it can personalise your content. The provider processes it under its own terms, which is why we ask you to avoid names, employers and confidential details.
Everything else — your programme, edits, favourites, journal writing and progress — is stored only in this browser. It isn't synced to other devices, and clearing your browser data removes it. You can export a copy in Settings.
To keep the service fair, our server keeps a usage counter: a pseudonymous key (a one-way hash, not your identity), a count and an expiry time. It never contains your goal or writing, and it's deleted automatically once it expires.
Your controls
- Every affirmation has a gentler alternative you can switch to at any time.
- You can edit any affirmation's wording so it feels believable to you.
- Every exercise is optional and adjustable — skipping a day never loses content.
- You can export everything as a file, or erase all of Steady's data from this browser, in Settings.
What Steady is — and isn't
Steady supports reflection and practice. It is not therapy, it doesn't diagnose anything, and it doesn't objectively measure your skill development. Any confidence check-ins are your own self-reports, shown back to you as you recorded them. Reading and writing support practice; skills grow through doing.
Keeping our digital footprint light
Some choices in Steady reduce how much computing each visit needs:
- One AI request, reused for weeks. Your programme is generated once and stored locally, so a 30-day journey needs a single AI call rather than one per day.
- Gentler alternatives are stored, not regenerated. Switching to softer wording costs no AI request.
- Bounded output. Each generation is capped at a fixed maximum length, so requests can't grow without limit.
- Lightweight pages. Illustrations are small vector drawings rather than photos or video, and there is no audio, autoplaying media or advertising to download.
- No unnecessary requests. Editing, saving and revisiting your programme all happen locally in your browser.
The first four points reduce AI processing; the others mostly reduce what your browser downloads and runs. Both matter, but they're different things. Hosting Steady and generating content still use energy and other resources, and we have not measured the overall environmental footprint — so we make no claims about it here.
Questions about your data? Everything is in your browser — Settings lets you see, export or erase it.
